Head of Research

About the Role
As Head of Research, you will be responsible for building the research function as a scalable system.
Our research model is based on small, autonomous teams of researchers, where each team owns a specific research direction, hypothesis, dataset, or scientific problem. Your role is to design and maintain the system that allows these research units to operate independently, remain aligned with the company’s goals, and produce measurable outcomes.
You will create the structure, standards, processes, and feedback loops that make research scalable: how ideas are generated, how tasks are selected, how experiments are designed, how results are evaluated, how priorities are changed, how teams are added or removed, and how successful research is translated into real impact.
This is a leadership role for someone who can combine quantitative research experience, strong managerial discipline, and organizational design. You should be able to build a research machine, not just lead a group of smart people.

We are building a research lab first — and a proprietary investment fund around it. The core belief is that long-term trading edge comes from a systematic ability to generate, test, and compound research insights faster and more rigorously than the market.
The problems we're solving are scientific in nature, but the evaluation is practical. The lab works on problems across agentic workflows, machine learning, systematic trading, market microstructure, alternative data, signal generation, portfolio construction, execution, and risk.
You might thrive in this role if you have
Proven experience leading quantitative research, trading research, systematic strategy, or data-driven investment teams.
Strong understanding of trading, alpha research, portfolio construction, execution, risk, market microstructure, and the lifecycle of a trading idea from hypothesis to live deployment.
Ability to structure autonomous research units, define their ownership areas, set clear interfaces between teams, and create objective ways to evaluate progress and output.
Strong managerial skills, including hiring, onboarding, mentoring, performance management, compensation input, and resolving conflicts between teams or priorities.
Experience setting research priorities at the portfolio level rather than micromanaging individual tasks.
Ability to design dashboards, metrics, review rituals, and decision-making processes that make research output visible and comparable across teams.
Strong communication skills and the ability to create alignment between researchers, engineers, data teams, risk, and senior stakeholders.
